Ayn Rand (1905–1982) was a Russian-American writer, philosopher, and playwright, best known for developing a philosophical system called Objectivism. She was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and emigrated to the United States in 1926. Rand is most famous for her novels "The Fountainhead" (1943) and "Atlas Shrugged" (1957), both of which promote her philosophical ideals centered on individualism, self-interest, capitalism, and reason.
